There Is Hope

Refugees look after Malawian village orphans

Christians at “Emmanuel Full Gospel Church” at Dzaleka refugee camp have left us speechless with their generosity and long-term commitment to Malawians living in some disadvantaged villages surrounding the camp.

“Emmanuel Full Gospel” was opened in 2003 by a Congolese refugee pastor, Rev. Joshua K. Munonge. Pastor Joshua and the members of “Emmanuel Full Gospel” (about 240 people) not only support about 50 orphans and help many adults living with HIV within the camp, but have been building relationships in four surrounding Malawian villages: Lipunga, Kundwe, Kantene, and Dzikapanda. In the villages, “Emmanuel Full Gospel” supports about 70 orphans, they have established local churches, they run adult literacy classes, they plant and harvest crops to produce food for the vulnerable, and finally they have built a maize mill (through funds from a donor in Denmark) where proceeds go towards secondary school fees for orphans.
There is Hope supports the commitment of this refugee church to be a blessing in their host community.

We have so far donated a bale of second-hand clothes for the 70 orphans, and funded the roofing of an orphans day-centre that the church has built in one of the villages, and we’d love to keep partnering with “Emmanuel Full Gospel”.
